A new morning. A new port. A new island to explore.
Tuesday, March 29th was our day at Dominica (pronounced Dom-in-eek-a).
Our shore excursion on this day was a trip to the Emerald Pool and to a black volcanic sand beach. First we stopped at Morne Bruce for a beautiful view of the city and the ship.
Then we traveled to the Emerald Pool which is located in the Morne Trois Pitons National Park.
It was pouring rain!! But we made the best of it and rented some umbrellas and made the 20 minute trek through the rainforest, and I am so glad that we did! It was beautiful!
It was a little hard to get many pictures because of the pouring rain, but we tried.
Who knew it rained so much in a rainforest? :)
Dominica is known as the 'Nature Isle of the Caribbean' for it's unspoiled beauty. And this so very true!
After the Emerald Pool we traveled to the 'volcanic black sand beach'.
And the sand really was black. The texture of the sand was like powder and it was very hot to walk on!
We spent a couple of hours here soaking in the sunshine and playing in the Caribbean Sea.
After the beach we headed back to the ship. The island of Dominica is very lush and beautiful, but also very poor.
No one was on this bus, thankfully, when Hurricane David hit the island in 1979. What is kind of amazing is that they have just left this and have even built a building right next to it.
Back to the ship.
On this night, we played some Bingo,
had a nice dinner and then went to a comedy show in the Explorers Lounge. Another awesome day!
