Italy :: Day 5 Pisa

Our last stop of the day before heading back to Florence, was the city of Pisa.

We had a chance to get the 'cheezy' photos.

And a family photo.

We arrived back in Florence at 8:30 that night very tired, but with a full day of excitement and memories to process. We stopped at a little pizza shop near our hotel and took some food for 'take-away.'

This day was amazing! We did so much and saw so much on the 'The Best of Tuscany Tour' ... Sienna, San Gimignano & Pisa with a winery lunch... all in one day!! 

Italy :: Day 5 San Gimignano

The next stop on "The Best of Tuscany Tour" was San Gimignano.

This is on of Tuscany's best preserved medieval towns.

Piazza della Cisterna is the main square.

We of course had to stop and try some world champion gelato! :)

We walked to La Rocca di Montestaffoli, the town's fortress and climbed some stairs for some amazing views of San Gimignano.

A great view of the 15 remaining medieval towers.

Families would build these tower houses, with each competing and trying to build the tallest tower.

At one time there were 72 towers.

This picture makes me laugh! :) Jake is imitating the guards at the Sistine Chapel, clapping his hands and saying "No photos!"

There was no traffic in this city, which made it so nice to walk around.

Italy :: Day 5 Chianti Vineyard

The tour continued as we headed to a Tuscan lunch at a Chianti Vineyard.

We stepped off the coach bus to visit an organic family run wine estate.

We were given a tour of the winery.

And the farm.

We enjoyed a Tuscan lunch of homemade pasta, prosciutto and salami, cheeses, a garden salad, and biscotti... and plenty of wine.
